About Chinook

Chinook is a charitable, non-profit paddling club providing children and youth-through-adult programming. We are the only dedicated Sprint Canoe Kayak club in Victoria.  Kayaking?  Yes!  Endorsed by our provincial and national sport organizations, we offer month-long introductory courses and six-month and yearly development programs led by our NCCP certified Community and ELCC coaches.  All programming is overseen by Victoria’s  NCCP certified Comp Dev* paddling coach.

*Canoe Kayak Canada requires Comp Dev coaching to advance Sprint Canoe Kayak athletes towards the national podium stream, international competitions &/or Olympics.

Our Goals

To introduce our sport to children and youth in the community through affordable, fun programming while providing opportunities for fitness, increased physical awareness, and skill development.  To deliver coaching and programming required for paddlers to advance through the athlete development stream.  Many of our paddlers have advanced  to compete at Nationals, Canada Games, Jr/U23 Worlds and Pan American Championships.

Our Program Values

Chinook offers effective, informed leadership and knowledgeable coaching which implement the principles of Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) and Canadian Sport for Life (CS4L).  We value the principles of True Sport along with mentor-ship, esprit de corps and volunteerism. We value safety and respect for individuals and equipment, and in our communication.  Our culture of integrity and best practices embodies our club mottoperficientur excellentiam or Performance Excellence.
